Question
QUESTION: hi,
i have a 5 month old leopard gecko and lately hes been acting weird. i check the temp on both sides of his 10 gallon tank, hes eating and pooing normaly and i use reptile carpet (no sand), but lately hes been hiding out behind his exo terra hide pressed against the tank wall. he used to always stay in his hide during the day and sleep(thats the side with the uth)but now he will not come out from behind it until like 12 oclock at night.

also he has shedding problems. he has a humid hide and i srpay the tank when needed and give him warm baths but there is still always skin epecially on his toes and hes already lost at least 1/3 of his toe nails. i dont know if these two are connected but if you could help me that be great, especially with the shedding problem, thanks!

ANSWER: Hello Sam,

What are the temperatures in the tank?  Do you use a stick on type, a digital probe or a temp gun to measure the temperatures?
Did you change anything in his tank, or in the room?
How often are you using calcium supplementation?
Do you have any pictures of him right now?
What type of substrate do you use for him?
Nutritional issues can sometimes cause shedding issues.   What does he eat & how often do you give hm calcium & vitamins?

Do you have any pictures of him?

QUESTION: temps are 88 on hot side and 70 on cool side and i use a stick on type but i leave it on the floor of the tank
the only thing changed was i bought a fake plant to drape over his rock hide that sticks to his tank wall and my room is the same
i use a cal sup every second feeding and vitimans 2 or 3 times a week
hes on green reptile carpet
he eats mealworms and cricets though its hard to get him to eat the crickets, he only eats about five a week, ive even tried not feeding him for a few days to make him hungry. all he really wants to eat is mealworms and i dust them too. he is almost 6 inchs and is 5 months old
soory but i dont have a camera right now but his tail is thicker than his neck and nice and fat.
i feed him about 3-5 gutloaded mealworms a night and crickets when he'll eat em
any advice on the shedding? over 1/3 of his nails are gone. will they grow back? like i said before i tried a humid hide (but he uses that as a bathroom realy), misting and warm baths. ive had to use tweezers and q-tips to remove old skin

also, anyways on how to further entertain my gecko besides rocks, logs, towel rolls, food ect and is there any treat i can offer him besides bugs?

Answer
Hello Sam,

Ok, those temps sound good.  I noticed you are using a stick on type, so they are not always real accurate for higher temperatures.  Maybe you could find digital probe or a temp gun to more accurate measure the warm side.  So, his temps may be off just a little bit.
Are you using an undertank heater?
That is fine, they don't always eat every day though. The mealworms & crickets are great, so I wouldn't worry about his appetite if he is maintaining his weight.
You can also try leaving a small dish of calcium powder in his tank, in case he wants more calcium.
His nails might grow back, if the nail bed was not ripped.  Maybe try bathing him to see if that will help with any retained shed.  You can try misting a small area on the warm end, daily & just lightly, to help with humidity.  Do you have a water dish in there for him?
You could try giving him some fruit baby food, they sometimes like that.
As long as he has things to climb on, he will be fine.
