Question

Slinkz
My friend has a leopard gecko roughly 3 inches long. Shed been on a cricket diet since my friend brought her home and she was doing just fine. Two weeks later we introduced her to another leopard gecko her size. They didn't seem to have problems except that the new girl (sketch) wouldn't eat. We had to force feed her and with her small appetite we didn't think she was healthy and took her back. That same day we trough home a four to five inch male. They had no problems with each other but when she started losing wait they were separated. She stayed in her water constantly and seemed to be eating normal. Her weight loss continued and now im terribly worried she might not make it. I've attached a picture of her current condition. Please help!

Answer
Yes, she is severely emaciated--she may not make it at this point even with aggressive medical intervention.

It sounds like you're buying these from a pet store, where they have all probably been housed together.  That means that all of the animals are infected with whatever made one of them sick--probably parasites.  Parasites can quickly build to lethal levels in a captive situation.  Pet stores are last on the list of places to buy healthy reptiles--almost any other option is a better choice.  (Buying direct from a reputable breeder is best).

It's a good idea to quarantine all new animals for at least 3 months before you introduce them to one another (or even keep them in the same room.  Wash hands carefully between cages as well).  Your little girl there caught something from the one you brought home sick, and now she is sick, too.  Your male is also at risk, since she was housed with him.

Her best hope is for you to take her to a veterinarian with reptile experience immediately.  He'll get her on nutritional support (probably feeding her with an eyedropper), and check her for parasites and other causes for her illness.  Reptiles can come back from that condition, but it is far from certain.  You want a diagnosis anyhow, because even if she does not make it, the information can be used to treat your male before he becomes so sick.
