Question
I have two leopard Gecko's a male and a female - I will be honest I have been a little neglectful of them for a week or so- I suffer from chronic pain and have a bad couple weeks lately - anyway I picked them up last night and mama's eye looks like it is gone. There is a crusty stuff all the way over one eye and it is very swollen and daddy look's like he is starting to get it too. Daddy also has a little sore by his mouth - These Gecko's belonged to my son who died 4 years ago and they mean a lot to me... I feel like they are going to die... I went to a local pet store and they told me to by bactriban ointment and put it in there eyes - I have been since last night - I also clean them out with H@o as much as I can but it looks BAD.... Can I give them people antibiotics or do you have any other suggestions ?

Answer
Hello Penny,

What type heating do you have in the tank right now?  Are you using an undertank heater along with an overhead basking light as well?
Can you post a picture of the eyes for me?
Oh geez, I am sorry that your son passed away, that is terrible.  I can see why the geckos are so important to you.
Get some sterile saline to rinse the eyes out. If you can, try to do this a couple of times per day.
Are they eating pretty well or not?
What type of substrate do you have them on, sand, paper towels, tile?
Is the bacitracin specifically an ophthalmic ointment?  If not, the regular type is not good to use for the eyes, it needs to be the ophthalmic type.  If you can't find it, let me know.
If you feel like they have an overall infection, then, we can discuss treatment of that sort as well.  Just based on the swelling, it sounds like they may have an upper respiratory type of infection.
