Question
I have recently purchased an armadillo lizard from a local pet store, they had originally told me she was a crocodile lizard :). Now that I know what she really is I have heard they are a social creature, should I have more than one lizard or will she be ok in solitary?

Answer
I would be concerned about what other bad advice you got from that pet store. A crocodile lizard looks nothing like an Armadillo lizard, other than they are both lizards and both somewhat spiny, but the Armadillo lizard definitely more so.

The reptiles 101 answer is that you should never house two different species together, especially if they come from different parts of the world. Armadillo lizards come from Africa. Many other types of lizards are not going to have the same habitat preference or immunity to disease, and one or the other will see the other as a potential threat. If you house the Armadillo lizard with something else, it should be another Armadillo lizard, and you should increase the habitat size accordingly.
