gecko paw bleeding?

Question
QUESTION: Hello, i have a leopard gecko who needs a bit of help. recently, he began to shed, however he never managed to shed his front right paw correctly and never let me help him. Last night, i spotted some blood on the paw and had a check on it. it seems as though he as bit his toes off, although I'm not quite sure. There is still some blood on the paw but I think it has stopped he won't let me touch it, although i have managed to dab some cotton wool soaked in water on it and dab some "Beaphar eye and skin ointment" on it. He seems to be acting OK but I just want to know if i need to take any immediate action. I am also worried about dealing with any infection that could pop up
many thanks

ANSWER: Hello Joe,

Oh no!  That is possible he did bite his toes if he had retained shed on them.
You can try giving him a warm bath if he will tolerate it to clean up the area & take a better look at it.
The ointment, is it an antibiotic ointment?
I would be concerned about infection & possible tissue necrosis at the bite areas, if that is what has happened.  Continue to clean it daily & keep ointment on the area as well.
Do you use a solid substrate such as paper towels or non adhesive shelf liner?
Is he eating anything right now?
Do you have a water dish in his tank for him?

Let me know how he is doing.

QUESTION: Thanks for the reply. It does seems as though it is healing OK and he seems fine and is still eating. what signs should I be looking out for for the likes of infection and tissue necrosis?

Answer
Hello Joe,

That is good news his feet/toes are healing & he is still eating.
The signs to look for tissue necrosis is color changes primarily on the area & hardening of the area which means the tissue is dead or dying.
Watch to be sure that the infection if there is any present, doesn't travel upward on his feet to his leg.
