Blue Tongue Skink Possible Impaction

Question
QUESTION: Hello, i recently acquired a blue tongue skink from a friends sister ten days ago, Hes about 2 and a half years old. I havent seen him poop or found any poop in his enclosure since the day we got him an while taking a stroll on my bed had diarrhea. She had him on a diet of catfood with occasional fruits an veggies along with calcium +d3 and a multi vitamin. Hes eaten every second day since his arrival here. The first few days i gave him catfood mixed with chopped up kale but he just ate the catfood an ignored the kale, he ate maybe a quarter of an 85G can of catfood. the remaining days i gave him blended kale, carrot, catfood, and banana as that was all i had on hand, he ate that but only a small portion maybe a milk jug lid or two worth out of his bowl. Ive seen him pee twice an he held his legs in the air for quite awhile. Hes been very active since he got here doing laps around his enclosure, playing in his water bowl etc. Does this look like signs of impaction ?

ANSWER: Hello Travis,

The catfood is not really an appropriate diet for a blue tongue skink.
They need more of a balance in their diet.  Greens & veggies such as Mustard greens, Collard greens, Dandelion greens, Kale, Swiss chard, Butternut squash, boiled eggs,& red meat.  You can feed him melons, apples, pears, bananas, strawberries, for treats.

How big is he?  You can also give crickets also, for some variety.
What was he kept on previously, sand, tiles, paper towels?
Are you using UVB lighting, & if so, what type & brand are you using?
It sounds like he might be having some trouble with an impaction maybe, or he could be calcium deficient.

ANSWER: Hello Travis,

Well, 24 inches is a good sized skink.  Do you have any pictures of him?

QUESTION: Good afternoon Tracie, Some good news i think, gave him some kale an applesauce the other day with a bit of mineral oil an yesterday in the bath he passed some what looked like older poop along with the kale applesauce an mineral oil although he still strained for awhile after before giving up. Whats the approximate size of skink droppings haha, itd make it alot easier to know if hes passing it all or just a bit.

Answer
Hello Travis,

That is excellent you have gotten him to go potty.  He must have been a little backed up though, which will cause a lot of lethargic behavior.
I would try to increase the calcium intake for him a little bit if possible in case he is calcium deficient as well.
I am not sure what the size of their stools, but, they should be a decent sized stool, for a 24 inch skink.

How is he doing this afternoon?
