trying to get together
QUESTION: I have 3 beardies one male, and 2 females.  The male is by himself but for a short time I had their tanks visible to eachother, and the one female, gyzmo, and the male, BAL showed obvious mating signs, so I put them together in a different tank and they did their rightual, but he about 4 inches longer than her and did not penetrate.  If I allow them together again, what are the odds of him adjusting himself to be able tp penetrate her?  Or do I need to wait until they are closer in size

ANSWER: It is dangerous for your female to breed too young.  Your female should be at least 18 months old, and 350 grams or more.  Use a digital kitchen scale or postal scale that measures in gram increments to be sure of her weight.

Your male dragon should be at least one year old, to breed.  Due to the drastic difference in size between your dragons, it seems likely that your female is far too small to breed yet, even if your male is ready.

For her sake, track her weight with a scale, and wait until she is an adult.  Being bred too small and young can stunt growth, compromise her health and reduce her lifespan, and may even contribute to egg binding (which often requires emergency surgery).

QUESTION: To the best of my knowledge, the females r 2 years old and the male is 3...I included a pic with them together so u could see the size difference, he didn't hurt her and they r of mating age, I question if he will adjust his height on her back so he can achieve penetration, or is the size difference too much?  They seem to really like each other and do the mating signs when they can see each other

Answer
Ok, but you should still weigh her to be certain that she isn't too light.  The male will probably get the hang of it, with some practice.  If he hasn't been with females before, he may just need to figure it out.  You will need to watch for biting, and be prepared with some betadine in case he wounds the female.  It's normal for males to bite and grasp the female during mating, and sometimes they can break the skin.
