poorly beardie

Question
I have owned a beardie (for the first time) for almost a year. I think she is now
about 14 months old. She has nipped toes and tail after spending her early
days with far too many other babies in a small tank at the pet store.

Anyway, her behaviour in general seems fine as she is active and bright-eyed.
However, for several weeks I have noticed that when she goes to the toilet, a
lot of clear liquid comes out too. Sometimes her poo is a bit loose, but mostly
it is OK and formed as it should be. I have spent a small fortune at the vets
having a feaces analysis, ultrasound scan and blood tests - but to no solution
to the problem. The vet said that the bloods came back normal, that the
feaces showed no abnormal bodies in it but the gut flora was not as balanced
as it could be (but this beardie will not eat greens of any sort even though
they are offered everyday and I try to vary them in hope I'll find something
she'll eat). The scan showed that she was full of liquid, throughout her
tummy/gut, but nothing else 'abnormal'. She has been on courses of
antibiotic (batril and norzol - I think), but when on the batril she stopped
eating completely for nearly 14 days.

I have just finished a course of norzol with her, and once again she is going
off her food, but still seems lively. You can literally pick her up and squeeze
her and fluid comes out (which is what happens every time the vet is poking
at her tummy). Compared to other beardies she does look 'swollen' and
podgy, and apparaently has a very large beard/neck. I am at a wits end as the
vets have not come up with anything. I took out pet insurance in July but the
insurers have just cancelled the policy as they said it would not be valid for
her with her being 'ill'. I am now scared that they will not let me take out
another policy. Although she seems OK in herself with the exception of
occasionally going off her food - I don't want to leave her as she is. If she
died, I couldn't forgive myself.

Has anyone come across similar symtoms? What else can I do?

Living conditions - she has a vivarium with the recommended varying
temperatures, spot light and heat mat. She is currently on newspaper as an
initial fear was that the sand I was using may have been harbouring bacteria.
When she is eating, she has mostly smallish locusts and mealworms, with
waxworms as a treat - all with the regular dusting of the multivitimin/
calcium. Greens are offered daily, but I have seen her eat two small pieces of
leaf when she was younger, and nothing since. She has become lazy with
crickets and refuses to catch and eat anything that moves quickly. She
occasionally drinks water from her bowl, but not very often.

I don't know what to do. Any advice or help would really be appreciated.
Thank you.

Answer
Too many antibiotics will put her off food.  She probably would do better eating with regular doses of Acidophilis which you can get from a vet.  The vet did bloods, how was her kidney and bladder looking?  Perhaps some lactulose and milkthistle may help.  I use it for an overweight girl to help her lose the excess grams. And lactulose is a good diuretic.  Of course, all this should be run past your vet.
