baby bearded dragon sleeping alot

Hi

I bought a bearded dragon a couple of days ago.  He seems curious and active at first.  He was eating a lot (8-10 crickets) and had 1 bowel movement.  Now, it seems that he sleeps alot.  I took him out of the cage yesterday and tried to get him awake.  He opened his eyes and ran around but once he goes back in the tank he goes back to sleep.  I bought the zilla breaded dragon set at Petco so I'm using the UV light, basking light and regular day light that came with the kit.  The temp is around 100 degrees F in the basking area and cooler on the other sides of the tank.

What's wrong with him?

Hi Jessica,

It sounds like he is going into Brumation. It is similiar to Hibernation in some mammals. Except reptiles brumate and during this time they sleep often and eat very little they wake up only to eat and to get warmth to digest their food. This is the difference between brumation and hibernation. Hibernate means they are asleep all winter.

Just sounds like he knows what time of year it is.
