Beardie holding one eye shut

Question
Hi Tracie,

Over the last couple of days I have noticed that my Bearded Dragon holds one eye shut for extended periods. I have had a look at the eye and there appears to be nothing in it, no visible tearing and no puffiness around the eye. Both eyes still appear to be bright and he is still alert. I have washed the eye out with saline solution (specifically designed as an eye wash). There is no sign of dehydration and the skin goes back to normal immediately when pinched gently. He is two years old. He has a UVB 10 (designed for desert dwelling reptiles)light and is in a 4ft x 2ft x 2ft viv, with a hot spot of ~100of and cool end of ~83of. His photoperiod is ~12 hours at the moment though I will reduce this over the winter months. Other than the eye he is eating well and appears healthy with a good weight. His stools also appear normal. Hope this is enough information for you. Please do not hesitate to ask if you require anymore.

Many Thanks

Brian

Answer
Hello Brian,

Which brand of UVB light is it a florescent tube bulb or a compact or coil light?  Are you using a bright white light or a colored light with the UVB light?
How close is the light to him?
What type of thermometer do you use, a stick on type, a digital probe or a temp gun?
Is there any discharge or swelling of the eye?
IF you are using a Reptiglo 10 tube bulb, they have been causing eye problems due to emitting low wavelength UVB.  So turn that light off if you are using it.  I would recommend buying a Reptisun 10 tube bulb & you can buy it from here for a great price:

How old is he?  Could you post a picture of him & the tank setup please?  Thanks.
