Sleepy Dragon

Question
Yea, Hi. I have a Bearded Dragon, and for the last several months he has been sleeping around a lot. He is about 8 months old, 14 inches long, too young for brumation, and has always been a weird lizard to begin with. In the morning, (5:30am) His lights go on via timer. They turn off at 7:00pm. He has a 100 watt heat lamp, a 5.0 Repti-glo UVB dome light on one end of his tank, and a 10.0 Repti-glo UVB strip light near his basking site. He has a grape-vine/driftwood chunk thing that he climbs on in the morning, and I assume he gets warm up there, cause he'll stay for about an hour. (it gets to be about 100-110 degrees there) Then he goes under the wood, and sleeps. He doesn't run around a lot, only stays on the warm end of the tank, doesn't have that "bright eyed" look, and isn't very interested in much except his food. He chases crickets, and thats when he looks the happiest. He gets alert if you pick him up and if you let him out of the tank he will explore, but inside he just sleeps. He eats well; peas, crickets, and mealworms as a special treat, and deficates every 2-3 days or so. His stool looks weird though. The white part is white, not yellow, but instead of being a tube or "sack" shaped stool, its in more of a pile. I can't seem to find any information about this online. Oh, and he has water. Any ideas as to whats up? This has been going on for awhile...

Answer
Hello Eli,

How long have you been using the Reptiglo 5 & 10 UVB lights?
These lights, especially the Reptiglo 10, are not very good.  They emit the improper wavelength of UVB which are not conducive to D3 synthesis which over time can contribute to metabolic bone disease.  They do not have enough UVA with the light, either so it makes it harder on the eyes.
The 100 watt heat lamp, is it a bright white light?
What are you measuring the temperatures with?
It is possible that he is trying to brumate as some as young as 6 months do brumate.  How much does he weigh?
It sounds like he is well hydrated though.  Does he drink a lot of water?
Do you have any pictures of him?
The stool sounds a little runny.  Does it smell really bad?  He could have parasites possibly but a fecal would need to be done to determine that.
I would look into changing his UVB light to either the Reptisun 10 tube bulb or the Arcadia D3 tube bulb.  They are both very good lights.  The Reptisun 10 can be found at:
www.petmountain.com
The Arcadia D3 12% tube bulb can be found at:  www.lightyourreptiles.com

Let me know how he is doing.
