Question
I just yesterday got a gecko and the man I bought it from told me they eat crickets and then he didn't say anything else they eat. So I know that they eat crickets but, what else do they eat?

Answer
Dear Keara,
thank you for your question.
You can feed all kinds of insects: crickets, locusts, mealworms, zophobas, roaches (Blaptica dubia or Panchlora nivea for example, cannot breed in the house), silkworms, waxworms and waxmoths, earthworms and flies (depending on the species of your gecko: day geckos can hunt flies easily, leopard geckos for example have problems with it because they cannot walk on the glass).

Zophobas, mealworms and waxworms are very fatty and shouldn't be fed too often. All insects should be fed vegetables and fruit for at least a week before giving them to the gecko. Locusts can eat grass, germinated wheat or hay, flies can be fed marmelade or applesauce.
All prey shouldn't be bigger than the gecko's mouth is wide, better a bit smaller.
I hope I was of some help to you
Jennifer
