Question
QUESTION: i have a male and female bearded dragon. the mated, i seperated them. made a lay box etc.. she woz digging like mad, she layed 4 healthy eggs but she has loads more eggs in her belly, after laying 4 eggs she is recked. now it is 2 days later and she looks depressed and has no interest in the lay box and is not eating. i am worried, what should i do, rite back please.

ANSWER: Hi Sean,

She sounds like she is egg bound...sometimes giving them a bath can help...but don't waste time soaking her for a long time..soak her while you have the phone in one hand calling the vet..she does need to see a vet immed. as egg binding can be deadly to them.  Again, a vet is needed ASAP.  If you don't have a vet:

QUESTION: i asked my local pet store about it and he said she will lay them when she is ready but she still didnt lay so i am going to get in contact with a vet. thanks for your help. i will let you know what happens

ANSWER: Hi Sean,
Good choice on checking with a vet. Getting a reply from a pet store as you did pretty much says what their knowledge is pertaining to the subject not to mention their lack of concern.

QUESTION: she still didnt lay, i went to the vet today and he said she is a healthy lizard and i brought her over in time, he gave her a shot of oxitocin and calcium. this is a hormone witch will help her lay the eggs. i will let you know how she got on thanks for your help

Answer
Hi Sean,
Glad you got her into the vet.  Oxy does work sometimes with the lizards..but there are times where it just doesn't.  If she starts straining to push out eggs with no result, she probably needs to have an xray to be sure there isn't an overly large or broken egg there that she cannot push out.  Prolonged pushing can lead to a ruptured egg which causes a deadly infection..egg peritonitis.  Fingers crossed here that she passes eggs easily and doesn't need to have surgery to remove the eggs.
