Unknown_snake_7-31-08
Found in Earlysville, Virginia, 7-31-08, 9:00am in our pool skimmer.  Appeared to be about 10 inches long.

That is a copperhead.  It is venomous, and though usually not very aggressive do not try to handle it.  The bite is usually not deadly but you would most likely end up in the hospital.  If you didn't kill it call the local zoo or animal control and have them pick it up.  Or simply take it out in the country and let in go far away from people.
