Help!!! I have a very sick Leopard Gecko

Question
QUESTION: My gecko has been very sick, I was away and had someone feeding her, they didn't realize she wasn't eating aprox 3 weeks (the crickets where hiding). When I got home I was devastated to see how thin she had gotten, I brought her to the vet and he told me she had MBD (stupid me took the bad information the guy @ the pet store gave me as fact), the vet said she is pretty far gone. I REALLY wanna save her, I'm desperate. I've tried everything I can find on the net, I bought a lamp for her cage, I sterilized everything in her tank, I changed her flooring to cage carpet, I tried feeding her beef flavored baby food with calcium and I crushed her crickets and mixed it with calcium, she may have thrown up or diarrhea (not sure), I bought pedilyte and mixed with warm water and bathed her in it. I really need to save her, can some one PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

ANSWER: Hello Nat,
Oh that is terrible that she was not eating while you were away!
Are you using an undertank heater in conjunction with a basking light?
She needs a basking spot of around 88-90 during the day, so, put that lighting on the end where the undertank heater is.  The moist humid hide should be on the warm end also to help with humidity.
The cool end should be around 80 or so.
The syringe feedings of beef, chicken or turkey babyfood, mixed with calcium should help her alot.  You will need to feed her daily, to ensure she is getting enough food.
If her tummy is upset, you could get some non dairy soy yogurt to help soothe her stomach.  Remember, reptiles get well very slowly so be patient.
Do you keep a little dish of calcium in the tank with her as well?

QUESTION: I am using an undertank heating pad as well, the light is only new, less than a week, when i bought her 2 yrs ago, the guy @ the pet store assured me that geckos don't need that light, just the heating pad (stupid me for believing him). I'm struggling now to get her to eat,and she' fitting me with the syringed liqid CA+ (0.1 mg suggested by the vet), she's now refusing to even lick her lips, what kind of calcium should I place in a dish for her? I'm so scared, I don't know if she's getting worse or slowing better. I don't know if the amount of food and calcium that she actually is getting from her lips is enough.

Answer
Hello Nat,

Well, in order to get a hot spot of around 88-90 using a low wattage basking light in conjunction with the undertank heater is a good idea.
The liquid calcium should help her out.  Do you mean .1ml?  If you have any powdered calcium, just put some in a dish & usually they will lick some out of their dish.
Unfortunately, if you cannot get her to voluntarily open her mouth to get food from the syringe, you will need to get a q-tip & get her mouth open that way to get food into her.  I know you hate to have to do that but sometimes when they are that sick, we have to intervene for a short while to help them get better.
