Hi Tracey-I have been diverted to this now as I have asked too many follow up questions!well I have now taken your advice and fitted an arcadia D3 tube lamp and a low watt heat mat for night time-I shall try him with the plants you have mentioned but do you know of any plants I can grow in the viv that he can eat?thanks once more and I will leave a healthy rating for you too,Andrew.

Hello Andrew,
That's ok!  :-)) Great you got an Arcadia D3 for daytime along with your basking light.  The heatmat for night is fine.  
There are some plants you can put in the tank for him to chew on no problem.  You can get some Mulberry leaves, Chives, Clover, Dandelion, Swiss Chard, Tropical hibiscus, & Carnations.  That is a decent variety to pick from.  
I am glad he is doing better now.
