Question
ok 3 days ago i bought a frog from Meijers, and when i got him he was in the goldfish tank with them. So when i got home i put him and the other goldfish in the tank with the others. A day after i found out that frogs don't eat fish food so i went to Petco and bought him some frog and tadpole bites and the fish started to eat it before he go to them, so i put him in a tank that we already had and i filled it with water and put food in it. The rest of the day i would go check on him but when i looked the first time i noticed he was wheezing alot like he was tryna catch air but i didn't think nothing of it, he swam around the rest of the day and the next morning i woke up to check on him i gave the water a little movement and he just flipped right over and that's when i noticed he was dead. I cried but i'm going to get another one but can u please tell me what could have been the cause or did he need a air filter since he was used to being in a tank that had one? Please help i'm very sad.

Answer
Hello Alexis, I am very sorry for your loss. Its never easy losing any pet.
Would you happen to know what kind of frog it was? Was it one that stays in the water or one that likes water and land? You might want to try getting a land dock so he can come up and yes an air filter would probably help get oxygen to the water. He could just have been sick at the pet store.
So what you want to do is at PetCo they sell floating docks. Get one of them and hook it up to the tank. You will want quite a bit of water in the tank. Then try and get just a simple air filter or air pump so it gets oxygen in the water.
Don't put any fish in with him, and remember to have a lid on the tank. The docks are made for turtles so let me get you a link to the item on the PetCo website
You can get this kind
http://www.petco.com/product/12389/Zoo-Med-Turtle-Docks.aspx
OR
http://www.petco.com/product/15052/Zoo-Med-Floating-Turtle-Log.aspx

They both work well and just any old air pump or filter will work make sure he cant get sucked up in it. Frog and tadpole bites are good and if he doesn't eat them he probably is already sick. If you want some Petco stores sell land frogs. You can also see about getting maybe a newt or salamander. These animals are sometimes easier to take care of and last longer. Let me know if this helped and anything else I can do for you. Good luck
