Question
Hi there i need help with A baby Gecko i bought from a pet store about 3 weeks ago. I bought 2 of them and while the one is alert, eating good and growing every day, the other doesn't eat, never moves only to change position to sleep, and i noticed a coupple of things. The tail has a kink in it and on one of it's back legs the toes look like they are all bunched together instead of having the webbed toes.I live in a small town and our vet knows nothing about reptiles can you believe that? A little advice on what i could do to help the poor little guy would be great. Thanks.

Answer
Hi Nancy, My first suspicion is that those may be congenital abnormalities ie. he hatched out that way. Congenital problems can be genetic (often inbreeding) or caused by improper incubation temperatures. There could very well be other things wrong with him internally which could explain why he is not thriving.
I would suggest giving him a soak in a little tepid water which will help keep him hydrated. Right after he has soaked for about 15 minutes take a close look at the deformed foot. If you are lucky it may just be old skin retained on the toes that is bunching them together. The water will soften the old  skin and allow you to roll it off  if that is possible. As for feeding, you might try offering some small waxworms which are soft-bodied high fat larva. They are available at pet stores. You can also try to get some nutrition into him with chicken based baby food. Smear or dab a bit on his snout, leopards will usually lick it off.
