Question
Ok so i've been wanting a lizard or gecko for a while (or maybe a red eared slider) but i would need one that i could hold and bond with. and i wouldn't want anything that would have to live in a tank bigger than 10 gallons. any suggestions? also, i absolutely LOVEE skinks but i have no idea what they need. can you tell me more about them?

Answer
Hello Ashley, Red Ear Slider turtles get big, up to 12 inches in diameter and can outgrow a 10 gallon tank in a few months to a year.

Now the two easiest and best beginner lizards are

The Bearded Dragon & The Leopard Gecko

Bearded Dragons as babies can eat up to 50 crickets a day!
Leopard Geckos dont eat so much

Bearded Dragons are Diurnal and sleep at night
Leopard Geckos are nocturnal and are awake at night

Bearded Dragons tolerate being handled
Leopard Geckos also tolerate being handled (both are very well known for this)

Bearded Dragons need at least 45 gallons of space
Leopard Geckos need at least 10 gallons of space

They are both desert species

All in all I think the Leopard Gecko would be the best. They have all kinds of pretty colors and morphs Such as the Tangerine, Jungle, Blizzard, and many others.

They are a great beginner lizard and rarely bite.

Skinks require quite a bit of room, as they do get large.
There are a few different kinds of skinks most common is the Blue Tongue Skink

Adults need at least 50 gallons of space. And they love to dig.

Let me know if you want more information on any of these or would like more options.
