My Collared Lizard Is Not Eating

Question
Sandra,

I own a 1 year old female Eastern Collared Lizard, she had an eye infection about a month ago, which I took her to the vet for, and was taken care of. Up until then, she was a very active, hungry little lizard.  Since the eye infection, she has looked depressed, and is not interested in her usual diet of crickets.  I have tried giving her alternative suggested food, she still is not interested. Changed the bulb in her tank, you name it.  She will eat one or two crickets every 4-5 days. Lately she has gone longer without eating, which I have ended up giving her the Carnivore Care powder so she can receive the proper nutrients. I have no idea why she will not eat, and I am totally out of ideas! Help!

Answer
Hi Jennifer
I am sorry for the delay in answering your question

It could be that she has decided to brumate-especially if this has coincided with the colder weather/temps

Has she lost a  lot of body weight?

If not then she should be fine until she decides that it is time for her to come out of brumation

You can continue with the usual day/night light cycle during brumation and offer her food once per week to see if she might want to eat

I did a search for Collared Lizard Brumation and found some info on KingSnake.com

Here is the link and it is on their Collared Lizard forum where you should be able to find lots of other info

Hope this helps
