Question
we got a pair of slider turtles three months ago. they were around 3cms in diameter. they are kept in a rectangular tub measuring 4ft.x 2ft. it contains pebbles and 2 rocks, the size of a coconut. we live in india. hence there is a lot of sunlight. most of the time both of them bask on the rocks. we have a seperate tub to feed them to which we add water and the feed and then allow them to stay there for around half an hour. their main tub is cleaned and refilled with fresh water everyday. when we first got our turtles, one of them would refuse to eat the turtle food sticks. so we tried giving them raw minced chicken or fish which they relished. now they don't show interest in eating chicken or fish and they never touched any vegies even when we tried mincing them with meat. so we fed them bloodworms and now they wouldnt touch anything else. please advise on how to wean them or encourage them to eat turtle food sticks or other vegies.

Answer
Kavita,                                                      You have some very spoiled little ones. Actually their diet is so broad it is not necessary to feed pellets. You can try making a turtle meatloaf. Combine the foods they were eating together with the veggies and freeze it. cut small pieces off at a time. Their metabolism is slow so they don't need as much food as you think they do . Try feeding them 2 times a day . Leave the food in for about 30 minutes at a time. To try to get them eat the variety they need. If they don't eat in 3 days then try  the pellets again. Your temp should be kept at 80 degrees. Which shouldn't be the problem here.If they still won't eat you can try a turtle stimulant about a half hour before they eat. It is available in most pet shops. It is just a shot if vitamin A. In that meatloaf you can add a powdered calcium supplement. Good Luck, Tina
