Question
QUESTION: Hi Tracie, My Uro (odin) has become pretty "plump" over the past couple of weeks, he's also peeing every time i pick him up. Other than that he has a clicking type noise but i think you cleared that one up for me already. He's in a 55 gallon terrarium and has an infrared light and a UVB bulb in a 75 watt lamp.

thank you for your time.
Nick

ANSWER: Hello Nick,

How old is Odin?
What are the temperatures in his tank?  What type of thermometer are you using?  A stick on type, a digital probe or a temp gun?
The clicking noise could be him communicating, but let's make sure his temperatures are optimal.
The range of basking temperatures need to be 115-130 or so, but needs a cooler area around 78-82 on the opposite side of his tank so he can thermoregulate.
Which UVB light do you use again?

Do you have any pictures of him?

QUESTION: Hello again,
I was told Odin is between 3 and 4 years old, but i have a feeling hes older. Unfortunately im using a analog type thermometer, i have two in the tank (hot zone and cool) and then a humidity gauge as well. His tank usually sits at around 110 to about 120. The cool side is usually 80. I use a 60 watt blue bulb and a infrared light , then i have a lamp a bit higher up to get any cold air from getting in there. I'm sorry but I don't have any pictures now but i should within the next day or two.

ANSWER: Hello Nick,

Well, when dealing with that high of temperatures, you will need to get either a digital probe or a temp gun for better accuracy.  You can get the Acurite brand of digital probe at Walmart for around $12-14 or so.  They are very good.
Which UVB are you using, a mercury vapor lamp?  What brand is it?

QUESTION: Hello again, i believe the lights are Reptisun, and no i dont think its a mercury vapor lamp. So would all this go back to why he is "plump", and peeing all over the place?
Nick

Answer
Hello Nick,

So you are using a Reptisun 10 tube bulb?  How old is it?  If it is older than 6 months, then you will need to replace it.  The emissions do degrade over time.
How do you have it placed, on top of a screen, etc?  How far away from him is it?
I will be waiting for the pics!  When you say plump, how plump are you referring to, does he appear bloated?
As for his peeing, I am not sure why he would be peeing everywhere, unless he is trying to establish territory around another male.  What does he eat?
Have you looked for the digital probe thermometer at Walmart yet?  This is important, because if his temps are not correct, it will affect his health.
Really, the best thing you can do is to take all of the colored lighting out which would include the blue bulb & the infrared light.  They need bright white light & it helps to protect their eyes from the UVB as well.  Halogens are very bright & do get hot so those are perfect.
