My Leopard gocko is sick help!!

Question
The site would not let me do a follow up again so I'm responding in a new question box lol.  I cleaned her cage last night and lined it will paper towels.  I am cleaning her eye out with warm water and trying what a friend told me to do is try and work out/rub the puffyness.  She does not seem to be hurting when I rub it lightly and seems to like it.  I do feed her in her cage and leave crickets in overnight but there is never any more than 3 crickets in the take for extended periods.  Her color all around looks good and she is even a becoming more active at night now that I've started cleaning her eye and also rubbing it/ along with the feedings of wax worms (she ate more tonight) and her fecal looks good except maybe she needs more water which I am making sure she gets when I'm cleaning her eye (she soaks in warm water and licks a little up every time I do this with her.  I just hope the swelling goes down in her face because it looks very uncomfortable.  I also ordered some of those worms you suggested and figured giving them a try wouldn't hurt since when I looked at their nutritional value it was one of the best I saw.  Thanks so much and if you can think of any reason why her eye is remaining puffy let me know but ill keep you posted on if it goes down now that I've removed the sand, cleaned the tank and all her stuff, and am cleaing the eye daily.  I am also going to use some of the eye ointment that the vet gave me just to make sure the eye stays clean.  I'm open to any other suggestions you have about helping her get better:) Thanks again!

Answer
Hello Lindsay,

Sorry I hit the wrong button & accidentally sent that to your home email!!  I apologize.
I have done some more research on your gecko.  I do think we need to go over everything again.
I think that initially the sand may have caused some type of bacterial infection that has harboured.  The baytril may not get a stubborn infection.  They might want to try another type of antibiotic.  The eye & head swelling is worrying me.  It could be a systemic infection that is why I think it needs to be looked at further.
Are you sure that your temps are optimal?  Swelling of the eye & or head area can also be symptoms of stomatitis, too
Sometimes ticks or parasites can lodge in or around the scales of the eyes & bite the eye leaving it infected & vulnerable to swelling & injury.
Do you supplement with calcium & vitamins on a regular basis?  Low levels of vitamin A can cause eye problems, also.

Hello Lindsay,

Good that her appetite has improved somewhat.  Cleaning the eye out is a good idea as it will keep gunk from building up in there.
Yes, make sure she stays hydrated right now.  I am glad you have taken the sand out & put in paper towels.  That will get rid of alot of dust & bacteria in there right now.
The only reason that I can think of that her eye is staying puffy is that there is a local infection in her sinus cavity which the baytril should have cleared up.  How long was she on the baytril for?
Just keep her eye cleaned out as much as possible, & make sure her temps are good for her.  You do have the hotspot for her of 88-90 right?  That can also help with fighting any infection that she does or may have.
I am looking at a few things, & will get back with you on them.
