Question
QUESTION: i have an 8 week baby that will not eat greens or crickets, he runs away from them..i have been using pedilyte and baby food and feeding with a syringe...any thing else i can feed him?  he is eating that way. he has a reptisun 10.0 and a 75 watt basking that stays on for @12 hours a day...any help would be great...

ANSWER: Hello Rachel,

Is your Reptisun 10 light a flourescent tube bulb or a compact or coil light?
What type of basking light are you using, is it a bright white light or a colored light?
What are the temps in the tank?  What do you measure them with, & how large is the tank?
Are the crickets smaller than the space between the eyes?  Most of the time, at that age, the babies don't always eat tons of greens.  Keep offering them, & eventually, he will begin eating them.
Please let me know about the UVB light.  Thanks.

QUESTION: we are using a flourescent tube and zoo med 100 watt clear basking.the temps during the day are running 95-100, and at night 80-85. We have a digital thermometor that stays in the cage. the crickets are tiny, they are smaller then the space between eyes. any help would be great, we have his sister also and she is much bigger.

ANSWER: Hello Rachel,

Are you housing them together then?  If so, that is most likely going to be the problem.  She is probably dominating him & is not getting enough food.  Once he became stressed, his appetite will become affected.
Hm, the digital thermometer, is it a stick on type?  If so, you need to use a digital probe that has a wire with a sensor at the end.  They are much more accurate than the stick on types.
Good you are using the Reptisun 10 flourescent tube bulb.  How close is it to him?  Is the basking light directly by the UVB?
How large of a tank are you using?
You can also try feeding phoenix worms or butterworms.

QUESTION: thans so much for your help...they are in the same age but are seperated by a wall they each get their own food.  The basking light is in from of the UVB, should i move it?the tank is 30 gals, the female will be moving to a new tank soon.  Cani i feed him anything else beside baby food chicken? Thanks so much

Answer
Hello Rachel,

That is good they are separated by a wall & are fed separately.  How far away from the UVB is the basking light?  They need to be very close by to encourage basking while getting UVB at the same time.
Good you will be moving the female to a larger tank.  Are you moving the male also or does he get the tank he is in now all to himself?
You can feed phoenix worms, small butterworms, they are small enough for him.
How is he doing today, has he eaten anything on his own?  You can look into getting some bee pollen to help with his appetite.  Mix a small pinch of that in with his food, or sprinkle it on his veggies or greens or mix it with some water & use a dropper to feed it to him.
