QUESTION: How do you tell males from females I'm pretty sure I've got a male, but I am not certain.
I would like to get him a mate, but I'm,like I said, not certain if it is a male or female.
He (or she) is almost 3 what do suggest I do?

ANSWER: Hello Jessica, It is really easy to tell if you can pick him up. Here is a link with all the information you will need.

Also be sure that you do your research with breeding. How to take care of eggs, making sure the female doesn't get hurt etc.

Good Luck!

QUESTION: Thanks Again!
I just checked her & well she is a she!
I was just wondering if there was anything specific that I really, need to watch and be really careful about?
ANSWER: Congrats on the girl! When breeding it can be very hard on the female. The male can be very aggressive and he gets his way with her wether she wants it or not. So thats something you really want to think about. If you want her to have a friend but not worry about mating then get another female the same age. Egg caring isn't that hard but can be risky again for the girlie girl as she can become egg bound (really popular) and it can kill her. I really suggest not breeding them. It takes a huge risk and then what to do with the babies?! If you must mate them then be sure that she can get away from the male and that you have a separate enclosure for her or him if it gets out of hand. Keep a close eye on them for fighting. Good luck and again yay for girly!

QUESTION: Would it be easier to get another Female & then in a year or so breed them both?
Or would that definitely not be a very good idea?

Answer
That could be an option however you want to find a female of the same age. And a tank big enough for all of them. If you get a female that is much smaller then she will be picked on. So same age. You say she is almost 3 years old. So then at 4 yrs is the BEST time to breed them because they are at the top of their game and can lay up to 16 eggs. Once they are 5 the number of eggs start declining. With two females and one male it is also easier on the ladies. Because he gets "all he wants" and the girls get breaks. So if you would like to do it that way. I don't see any conflicts except fro the chance of them just not getting along.
If you need help finding a gecko the same age (as most pet stores only have babies) then check out some of these sites
