Question
QUESTION: Hello..I purchased an uromastyx on 10-15 and he is doing wonderful I had set the whole enviroment to the t with all temps hidings the works he has been very active and basking eating the whole nine.. today12-3-10 I believe he didnt come out of his hiding I know brumation is upon us so I figured maybe that is it .. he was out and about yesterday and today no..should I wait longer take him out or leave him be..I just want to be on top of things..he is a healthy male and I am not breeding if that makes a diffrence in the process of brumation.. please give me some advice..thanks Gina

ANSWER: Hello Gina,

Could you review the tank setup a little more.  What are the basking temperatures currently & what do you use to measure the temperatures with?  A stick on type, a digital probe or a temp gun?
Do you use a UVB light, & if so, what type & brand do you use?  A fluorescent tube bulb or a compact/coil light?
Do you know how old he is?
It is possible it is brumation, but let's go over everything first to make sure there is nothing else that could be going on.

When was the last time that he ate, & what do you feed him?

Tracie

Answer
Hello Gina,

Great, it sounds like he was just being lazy then.  It does happen when the weather gets cold so expect for him to do that from time to time.
I am very pleased to hear that you did your research prior to purchasing him.  The temperatures sound great for him, with a good area for him to thermoregulate then.  The digital probes are very accurate so that is good you are using one of those as well.
Are you using a UVB light for him too?

I hope he continues to do well for you.

Tracie
