Question
Hello, my boyfriend caught a wild garden snake (not a garter snake) and brought it in the house. We bought small crickets but she did not seem to eat any of them but may have eaten the corpses, it's hard to tell if they all just dried up though. Well this snake had three babies and they are extremely tiny. They're about 1.5 inches long but there heads are much smaller than the common mealworms you can buy refrigerated in a cup or fresh at the pet shop, even the babies that are sometimes in those cups seem thicker than the snakes entire head. I don't know if she will feed the babies or if they will know how to hunt naturally, but at this time I don't even know what the mother eats. When I look online, the breeds of garden snake shown are from southern states and are larger so most websites say they eat mice, unless they are being confused with garters. We live in Philadelphia PA and this snake is only about nine inches long and looked very dark but now seems to be a sandish color with some small dark markings. It is very hard to find information online on caring for these because we always just called them garden snakes.I would like your help on feeding, habitat, and if they should be seperated(one or two of them sleep under her for warmth, and she is very aggressive when you go near her young so I dont think she will eat them.) Thanks.

Answer
We need to ID the snake before I can even begin to go into care.  The babies being that small means they would be very difficult to care for in captivity.  I'd recommend letting them go.  Send me a pic of mama and I'll see if I can tell you what it is.
