Question
I'm studying veterinary nursing and I have been researching the vital signs of a diamond python do you know the respiratory rate and the heart rate of a diamond python that is around one meter long?

Answer
Hello,
reptiles have a metabolism dependant on temperature. Heart and resp rate will vary depending on this.
For anaesthesia the following should be considered:
HR prior to induction
Monitor HR during GA, if reducing more than 10-15% then GA is becoming too deep.
Monitoring the following during the GA for a surgical plane: HR, righting reflex, cloacal tone, jaw tone are the essentials.
Always remember, a snake that is too deep and where there a HR or RR cannot be detected, check the glottis as this will be closed if still alive!
