dead eggs???

Question
My female red corn layed eggs last week. she is mating with our 4 year old snowflake corn. she had 19 and this is her first lay in her life. Because she layed so many, the eggs were starting to collapse a bit before we could take them and place them into a tubber container full of moss and sand. we placed a heating pad under it as well as placing a heater by the container to keep the temp about 80 -83, and the humidity is stay around 90. we had to leave for a weekend and we noticed when we came back that the eggs have started to have "see through" spots on them. is that normal?? it like you can see through parts of the yoke and other parts are still white. could they be dead?? or do we still have a chance as having little ones??

Answer
Hmmm, tough call w/o being able to see them.  Eggs will sometimes have spots here and there that are not as white as others but "see through" worries me.  Healthy eggs are white.

I'm a little worried about your set-up, that heating pad worries me in that I would think the bottom of your egg container is much hotter than the top.  If the eggs are touching the bottom they may be cooked.  How are you taking the temp?  You can buy a Hov-a-bator turbo fan model incubator for less than $100.  I have one and have used it for over a decade, in fact when it got too small I simply took the heating part of it, put in on the top shelf of an old upright freezer and made a bigger incubator.  It works well for me.  You might want to think about getting one for yourself if you plan on breeding.

If the eggs turn brown(ish) or start to ooze, they are no good.  Keep an eye on them and keep me posted.
