Question
I recently bought a degenerate lizard and I don't know what it is. I thought it might be an anole but it is very small, caiman-like head and a brown poka dot look to it. It also doesn't seem to want to eat the crickets that I've been giving it. Plz help.

Answer
Hi Jonathan,
The reason it may not be eating because not knowing the species it is, its impossible to give it the correct care.
The first thing we need to do is try to figure out what it is.  Can you email me a picture of it?  You can email it to me at diane@scalesandtails.org
Also, telling me a bit more about it...like..where you got it... how long is it without its tail?  With its tail?
One species that comes to mind is the Alligator Lizard.
http://www.californiaherps.com/identification/lizardsid/lizards.id.html  has good pics of various lizards that are in California...  does it look like any there?
Once I hear back from you on the questions I have asked (and hopefully you can take a pic to send me) then I can offer you care information on the species.
In the meantime...I would try to offer it a variety of care such as a warm basking area (normal household lightbulb for now) in the 90 degree range in case it is a basking lizard...but be sure to offer it a cooler area in the 80's..offer areas for it to hide....be sure to place a dish of water in with it.
