Male and Female leopard gecko

Question
I have a male and female leopard gecko. When we bought them we were told to get two.  At the time the pet store could not tell what sex they were.  Now they are laying eggs, and mating a lot.  Is this going to cause any problems with the life span of either one of them? If it is going to cause problems, what would you recommend I do?  I can't fit another tank where I live, so it's going to be a problem if I need to separate them.  I want them to be happy geckos, and I don't want the female being stressed out all the time.
Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hi Lora,
Sounds like a typical thing the pet store would tell a person...they are there to sell things..and in most cases know nothing about what they are selling. If they would have both turned out to be male, chances are that by now one or both would have been very seriously hurt from fighting as that two males can never get along.
They really do need seperated. The stress of the constant breeding and egg laying isn't good for either of them. Even though a 10 gallon tank isn't the best size for one leo, is there any possible way you can  fit even a 10 gallon tank someplace?  If you now have them in a 20 gallon or larger, how about dividing the tank with a piece of cardboard or some type of plywood or paneling?
When you say "a lot" can you tell me how many eggs the female has laid and how many times she has laid eggs?  Also, since it does sound like they are young, this adds even more stress on them, especially the female.
The best solution is to have them in seperate tanks, in a seperate room because some females will still choose to lay eggs even if they can just see the male even though they were not bred.
