Question
My Australian Bearded seems very lethargic and he isn't eating.  He also seems to only lie on his belly and very seldom stands upright on his legs, his legs almost seem very weak. I haven't seen any outward signs of illness, like build-up around the mouth or eyes.  The cage temperature is fine 89 during the day, however I do have a glass cover and I recently heard that it is not good for the UV rays.  I'm using a reptile type carpet....do you think there is any chance he ate some and is impacted or that he may have worms ?? My other bearded acts completely fine and is very energetic, he used to be the more reserved one.  They both are approximately 1.5 years old (I don't know if age makes a difference).  We are now coming up on the summer season and thought he would become more active based on that.  These symptoms have been evident for about 3 weeks now. I'm starting to get more concerned as this time has gone by.  Do you have any ideas?

Thank you in advance for your time.

Answer
Hi Tylor, you need to take him to the vet. It sounds like he has MBD (metabolic bone disease) which is similar to the human disease Osteoporosis. It is caused by lack of UV rays. Which the glass cover would definately filter out any UV rays and the light becomes pointless. Take him to the vet to get proper medication and diagnosis. Get a screen cover and hope for the best. It is treatable but left alone is fatal.

-If you dont know of a reptile vet near you let me know your area and I can help out in finding one

Best of luck,
