Question
Our female collared lizard accidently ingested the rubberband from the bag of crickets when my son was feeding her.  How worried should we be for her health?

Answer
Hi Kathey,
rubber bands can be very dangerous to reptiles.  Some of the bands MAY dissolve and break down, others don't and can wrap around their intestines and cause grave problems.  Its important to get your collared lizard to a vet so that an x ray can be taken to see where the band is situated.  Many times, with the x ray, the vet can tell if it will pass...or possibly may even be able to retrieve the band  through his mouth. Sometimes they can even feed them something that will bind to the band to help it pass.
