Question
Hello Tracie, How are you?

I have asked you a few questions in the past about my leos before.
Thank you again for your responses. I just moved to Virginia, so I gave the geckos to my mom --- in California.
We are wondering, would it be okay to use vermiculite as a substrate in the entire terrarium, or is it risky if they injest this? (I am not sure if it is digestible at all, and if it is not, we want to be careful). I have used it in a tupperware container before and they love to go in and lay on it, but not sure if it is okay for the substrate of the whole vivarium? I think once i noticed one accidentally get a piece in her mouth and spit it out a long time ago.  But...do you happen to know?

thank you in advance!

Oh,and as an update, Our male leo who had enlarged buldges, my mom took him to another vet who was more familiar with this, and since the condition had probably also gotten more noticeable, he had a surgical procedure done to drain them, and he is all healed up now.  I  miss them so much!

Answer
Hello Crystal,

So do you have any geckos now?  Your male had clogged up femoral pores or infected hemipenes?  Wow I have heard of that before.  I am happy that he is doing better.
I would not use loose substrate because they do have a tendency to eat small things like that.  The vermiculite is not digestible at all & can impact them, yes.
I would stick with reptile carpet, non adhesive shelf liner, felt, tiles, or paper towels.
