Map Turtle

Question
Hello! A few weeks ago, I got a baby Map Turtle. He is still tiny so is currently in a 10 gallon tank. He has not really eaten anything. I have tried dried shrimp, bloodworms, live worms, live crickets and turtle pellets. Nothing works. He has a UVA/UVB light, and the water is warm. Also, he seems to spend all of his time on his basking platform, he is never really in the water. Thank you very much for your time.

Answer
What are the exact temperatures?  (A digital thermometer with a remote probe should be used to track basking temperatures, and an aquarium thermometer should be used to track water temperatures).  Spending too much time on the basking platform may mean that the basking area is not warm enough, or that the water is too warm or too cold.  It may also be an indicator that the animal is sick.  Of course, new pet reptiles should not be handled at all for the first week, after which some short, gentle handling sessions can occur IF the animal is eating well.  (Non-feeding animals should not be handled, and all attempts should be made to keep stress levels as low as possible).

If you suspect the animal is sick, take him to an experienced reptile veterinarian immediately.  Very small hatchling turtles are very delicate.  (Also, it is illegal to sell them to private owners in the US, so if you acquired the animal in the US, the seller is suspect and not reputable--this increases the chance of being sold a sick animal).
