salamanders?

Question
QUESTION: hi, you might not know anything about salamanders, but they are kinda lizards...

well, here is my question
the past few days, my 2 tiger salamanders have been acting weird.

they are trying to climb the glass, they are actively trying to escape their enclosure.

they are "running" (as much as a salamander can run) around their enclosure.

I changed the dirt/substrate, I change the water, I moved the ornaments. They are climbing onto the ornaments and trying to climb out!!

I've had them for 2 years and they've never acted this way.

It's like they are trying to escape something...

What should I look for??

Thanks
Kayla

ANSWER: Hello Kayla,

I know a little about salamanders.  What sex are they?
Are the temperatures optimal for them?  Since the weather is changing, perhaps their temperatures in the tank have changed.  What do you measure the temperatures with?
Do you have a lid on the top of the tank to prevent them from escaping I hope?

Are they eating plenty right now?

QUESTION: I assume male and female. I am positive one is a male, not so positive the other is female.
the temps in the tank is about 70 degrees F
there is a lid, but gloria (the assumed girl) is almost strong enough to push it aside just enough to wiggle herself through. I caught her in the act and have set something on top of the lid (it is broken so it doesn't stay attached like it should)

Answer
Hello Kayla,

Ok, a male & female.  Have they mated that you know of?
How large is their tank?  Maybe it is too small perhaps & they need more space?
You will definitely have to put something on top of the lid in order to avoid one of them getting out since they have figured out HOW to get out it is probably just a matter of time before they actually do get out.  :-))
I am assuming it is humid enough in there for them since you have a water source, correct?  Do you keep track of the humidity with a gauge?
