Question
QUESTION: I am going to try and mount it to top to point down. I moved it to side wall for right now and the basking light is bright enough that no glare is pointing down at it, and he sits just a bit lower then it so he isn't eye level with it to stare at it all day. His gums look pinkish, but his tongue and the inner part is getting pale. I noticed this morning that were his lower jaw is puffy and has a slightt blackness. It seems to be getting a bit crusty. The medicine that he is taking isn't helping any. There isn't anything on his teeth tho. He is active runs around and so fourth. I have a fan set up to keep his cool side 83-84 now. His cheeks are getting like this were he first started to shed about a week or two ago. Also I followed some instructions for the crickets were you cover one side of a toilet paper roll, and then put it in with the crickets for extra hiding, and easier catching. I didn't get all the glue off. I didn't think they would eat it, or if they did they would just die. They did eat it and didn't die. I think he ate some of the crickets that ate the glue. Could this cause the mouth problems? I think it is mouth rot because it is the only thing that fits. Cause it is a bacterial infection. He busted the front of his lip open a lot on the glass of his cage running into it. and because it is were he started to shed. I have had him for about a month now, and he has been like that for the last 2 weeks. I just want him to be ok.

ANSWER: Hello Will,

Can you post a picture of that area for me?
His lower jaw is puffy?  Is his beard black?
His lower jaw area is getting ready to shed?
I am not sure it is mouth rot, but just a generalized infection caused from the snout injury initially.
Well, the amount of the glue that the crickets ate was probably negligable to the point to where it should not affect him when he eats them.  Crickets will eat anything!
What needs to be done is a mouth swab needs to be performed so they can culture the bacteria & see what they can find.  It normally takes around 5-7 days to get the test results back.
If he does have a bacterial infection, Albon is not really the correct drug.  I would go with Baytril which is a broad spectrum antibiotic, hitting both positive & negative bacterias simultaneously.

Let me know how he is doing.

QUESTION: Yeah the days for his albon is up, and his mouth is still puffy. I replaced the UVB light because I think the first one I got was defective. It is still the reptisun 10.0 UVB still. His lower jaw has already shed, and where he started to shed is where it is puffy at.Is there any way I could do the mouth swab, and then take it to them? I already paid the vet 60 dollars for the visit and albon. We kept asking about his mouth, and she just blew it off, and wouldn't answer our questions.

Answer
Hello Will,

Hm, I think you should try to find another vet.  Doing a mouth swab at home wouldn't work because it needs to go directly on a petri dish & in a sterile environment.
I don't blame you for not wanting to go back to the vet.  Some vets just are not very good at all.  Try looking on:

So the mouth is not getting any better?
How does he like the Reptisun 10?
