Question
Hi, I just aquired a 6 foot divided cage and  2 adult bearded dragons. I have a 48" twin bulb flourescent fixture over the tank. 1) is 1 reptiglo or reptisun 10.0 bulb enough?  2) would using 2 10.0 bulbs hurt? and 3)can they get too close to the bulb(s)? the light is aprox. 12" from the floor of the tank with basking spots about 6-8" from the light (they can stick their heads pretty close to the bulbs while basking)

Answer
Hello Rick,

Great size of tanks for your dragons, but I am happy to know that you are keeping them separated then.
Definitely purchase the Reptisun 10 fluorescent tube bulb.  They are much better than the Reptiglo 10.  They will need to be within 6-8 inches from them, unless you will be using a fixture that has a reflective backing built in to help increase the UVB exposure/emissions for them.  I would not let them get much closer than 6 inches, for eye protection.
Using 2 bulbs would be excellent, so 6-8 inches would be great.  You could even get by with 10 inches if you are using 2 bulbs.
Always have a bright white light for basking directly beside the fluorescent UVB tube to ensure they had adequate eye protection. It also allows for a great spot for them to bask while getting their UVB exposure as well.
