Question
QUESTION: Well I believe I could be seeing some good signs with her tonight. She is still not eating,But when the lights when out, guess what? She was actually out walking around.

I sprayed some water on the ground and at her and she did the funnies thing, she started to lick the drops, the it looks like she was trying to play on a slip and slide, she put her head on the tile and was sliding it across the tile. The she was rubbing against the back wall,So I think you did call it and I think she could be in the process of shedding. Now what can I do to give help her? she has the humid hide that she has been spending her time in (since yesterday). I get it plenty damp but not soaking wet. and I make sure I get the side of the bowl so she can lick at it. But seeing as she was sliding in the water what can I do for that. Thanks again.

ANSWER: Hi Taylor,
Oh, I bet that was funny to see!! It shows she has spunk too..which is nice! You may have to place a paper towel under the water bowl to absorb the water so she isn't on a slip and slide!!It sounds like she has everything she needs to shed..the humid hide, rocks, etc to rub against.  Now, it just takes time for the skin to loosen so she is able to get a hold of it to pull it off.  Once she sheds, be sure to check her toes and tail for any stuck shed. If there is any on those areas you can apply some Vaseline to those areas to help remove the shed. Sounds like progress is being made..now, the little monster just needs to start eating!!

QUESTION: Well were not doing to good Diane, I left some mealworms in her tank and she hadnt touched them. She is getting white and looks like she might shed,But I looked at her today and it looks like her skin is starting to suck in..... She doesnt come out at night, she just stays in the hide 24/7. Is this a matter where I need to get a vet involved,Petco said they will replace her,but I kinda dont want that because I know they could just pop her in the tank and not watch her,but I kinda do want a healthy leo too. What is your advice in this situation?

ANSWER: Hi Taylor,
Sorry to hear she is still  not eating and seems to be less active now. My honest opinion is that you should take her back to PetCo..  They will vet her, it is their policy.  I would sit and watch all the geckos they have available...if they are not active at all during the day, go back in the evening and watch them. Ask that you see them be fed so that you can see what one is eating well and active.
Even though I do rescue and take in critters that are in poor health, it isn't fair to someone wanting to start out with a healthy pet to expect to get just that..a healthy, well adjusted, active pet.
Again, my honest opinion..return her for a replacement and do as I suggested and watch them and ask that they be fed when you are there, even if it is in the evening hours.
PetCo has a policy that any ill animal is vetted and not put out for sale until it is doing well.
Many times, when a lizard does not do well in the beginning and doesn't thrive...they will never do well and will be an uphill battle to keep them going.
Go for a healthy, active one so that you can enjoy owning a leo from the start and not have to start out with a problem.  It is also best to get an older/larger one over a tiny baby.  At 2-4 months they are still young but old enough and large enough to make adjusting a bit easier.

QUESTION: Thank you for your quick reply,The manager is sending me to there certified vet tomorrow, I have talked to it over with my family and if the vet says that she is ill and has to get treatments I am going to opt to get a new leo,I cant deal with the stress with nursing another leo and have a strong chance with it passing again. If the vet says shes normal and just stressed, then ill keep her. I just want to make sure the leo will get great treatment from a vet and I feel as if she will get better treatment with her owner there against just having the store take her in and he will just do some generic treatment. I checked the vet out and he is a reptile vet,so hopefully I will get an answer tomorrow. I am still stressed out. Thanks again for your quick help and suggestions.

Answer
Hi Taylor,
I don't blame you on your feelings and thoughts at all. Keep in mind that the more vet visits and treatments(either vet or yourself) the leo needs, the more stress that is going to come into play, both on you, your family and the leo.  You can be in for a long road...glad to see the vet is a reptile vet.
