backyard lizards in georgia

Question
Well I was wondering if the little common green lizards, that I find quite a lot of in my backyard, are nocturnal or not.
See my little brother caught one and kept it as a pet but he is quite frustrated with the poor thing because it never does anything in the day time.
That's why i was wondering whether or not they were nocturnal.
Could you possibly help with my small dilemma?

Answer
Hello Cheryl, first off I do not approve of keeping wild caught lizards, they are usually ridden with diseases and do not do well in captive. They can't go from the wide open space of the earth to a little tank. It is very stressful and usually what will happen is exactly what you are saying. They just sit there and get stressed.

Now if you MUST keep this lizard which I advise that you dont. We will need to identify it to get the correct care and to see if it is a nocturnal type.
It sounds like a Green Anole-
Small (max 8 inches average around 5) Throat flap that extends in usually a redish pink color (sometimes only seen in males) Can turn from green to brown.
If this is the lizard you are talking about then no they are not nocturnal.

If not I will need some more information and maybe a picture of the lizard.

Here is a care sheet and pictures of the Green Anole (remember lizards are hard to take care of and need the proper heat, humidity, lighting, food items, and much more to stay healthy:
