hi i bought our dragon last saturday and the only lighting he has at the moment is infer red 75 watt 150 watt basking lamp i also have a heat mat the tempertures that i have are correct but i need a uvb for him but the problem is that is a class viv and i'm worried about the light to us as i know it can cause us skin cancer what would you recommend. the people who i got him from had plaster board in the inside of the tank but thats not going to be easy cleaned. i hope you can help as i want to sort this out asap. thankyou

Hi Louise,
I'm guessing you mean that the beardie is in an aquarium type viv?
There is no risk of you getting uvb from the cage. The uvb cannot go through the glass. Even if the uvb was able to (again, it cannot) unless you or someone was sitting nearly touching the glass, there would be no risk.
It is vital that your beardie does have uvb lighting so he is able to use the calcium in the foods(both insects and vegetable matter) he eats. Without a proper source of uvb he will develop metabolic bone disease.
The two best uvb sources available to you are the MegaRay(which provides both heat/uvb or the Arcadia brand fluorescent tubes which provide uvb.
