Question
I have a juvenile leopard gecko and I do not know if she is to young for me to breed. Also I want to know if to incubate your eggs you need perlite and where to find it.To breed her should I just buy another gecko and put them in the same tank or should I buy a whole other tank for the male.Do the geckos have to be the same age or can one be about four mouths older.(the last three questions are if she is old enough to breed).also where is a good place to find male leopard geckos that is not online.thanks for answering it was a big help to me.

Answer
If she is a juvenile, then she is too young to breed...she shouldn't be bred until she is a fully mature adult.  Females should be at least 9 months old, AND 40 to 45 grams in weight.  (Use a digital kitchen scale that can read in one gram increments to track your animals' weight.  You'll also want it to track hatchling weights later on).

Males don't have to be as heavy, but they must be mature enough to breed, so they should be about 8 months old, minimum.

If you're looking for a decent male breeder gecko, your best bet is to check with local breeders, of course.  You may also be able to get one at a local reptile show.  (Certainly a pet store won't have what you're looking for--pet stores receive the lower quality animals, after the best quality offspring were chosen for individual sale online, at reptile shows, and to other local breeders).

You should use an incubator with a good thermostat, and you can use perlite or vermiculite as an incubation medium.  Garden supply centers carry it.
