Question
My sons female lizard, has lost her tail, and now she is losing her feet. We bought a mating pair. Is he attacking her? or is it a shedding problem? Do I need to seperate them? I'm really concerned about her well being. thanks

Answer
Monica, "mountain agamas" are not a species I'm familiar with.  Are they perhaps "Mountain Horned Dragons?"  Losing a tail for any true agamid is a problem (theirs aren't supposed to come off).  Losing feet is even worse.  The only medical condition I can think of which would cause that is gout.  Gout is a dietary problem and as I'm not familiar with your lizards I can't comment on that.

To start I would separate them.  Then I would ask the people you bought them from for help, though they may not know anything either.  Agamas are usually very cheap and almost always imported, which translates to there being very little info available on them.  Mainly because it's cheaper to replace them vs. fix them (yeah, I know that sounds horrible).  If the lizard is still eating there might be time for veterinary intervention, if it has stopped eating I honestly would not bother.  You might also want to consider the cost of the vet visit before you go as well.  Figure it's gonna be at least $30-50 to walk in the door, probably with a species the vet has never seen before and one which could be replaced for less then that...  Again, I know how bad that sounds, but I want to be honest with you.  Good Luck!
