strange snake/worm animal on my porch

Question
I live in central Indiana, near Indianapolis.  This evening I noticed something slither underneath a pile of beach towels that were on my back porch.  I picked up the towel, and this animal slithered very quickly out from under it, and went underneath some ground cover that we have growing next to our porch.  I tried to move the ground cover around to try to get it to come out, but I couldn't find it, so I think it must have burrowed into the ground, but I'm not sure.  I have never seen anything like this animal.  It didn't look like it had any legs, it slithered like a snake, but it was fairly small, about 6 inches long.  It was almost a cross between a small snake and a very large earthworm.  Half of it's body was VERY bright metallic blue--almost like an aqua color, and I think the other part of it's body was black or gray, but I'm not sure.  I was so shocked that I didn't pay much attention to the other colors on it's body.  Do you know what this could be?  I have lived in Indiana my whole life (38 years), and I have NEVER seen anything like this.  Thank you very much!

Answer
The highest odds are, it was a juvenile 5-lined skink.  They do have legs, but their legs and feet are a dark color, so may have been difficult to see.  They are frequently mistaken for little snakes.

The bright blue coloration served the purpose it was meant to--if you were a predator, you would go for the part you noticed, the bright blue tail.  The lizard would break the tail off (and the tail would wiggle independently), while the lizard crept away safely.
