QuestionHello, My Beardie is about 2 yrs old and I am not sure if he is brumating (hybernating) or for lack of a better phrase sick and looking for a place to hide and die. This has been going on for roughly a month and a half. He does not eat very much at all which is not normal he used to eat quite a bit. He has become very inactive and he likes to find the coldest part of his tank and he will go there and stay for a couple of days because i dont let him stay there for longer than that. I have an undertank heating pad for him but rarely does he go there. He does occasionally come out but only for a short time then back to hiding. Not sure what to think as he is my first Bearded Dragon and I have only relied on the pet stores for advice. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You
Beau
AnswerHello Beau,
Can you review your tank setup with me?
What type & brand of UVB light are you using, a fluorescent tube bulb, or a compact/coil light? How old is your UVB light?
What type of basking light do you use? A bright white light or a colored light?
Do you use a digital probe or a temp gun to measure the temperatures in the tank? What are the temperatures in the tank?
Can you post a picture of him, & a picture of the tank setup as well just so I can take a look at it please. Thanks.
It sounds like it could be brumation, however, since you are a new owner, let's make sure your setup is good first.
Is he losing weight that you can tell?
If you can get some food into him, maybe you should get a fecal done to make sure he doesn't have parasites or worms.
How often have you supplemented a calcium supplement for him?
Are you positive that you have a male, & not a female?
