QuestionI have a 3 year old male bearded dragon. He is fat and healthy with a great
appetite. However he has what appears to be a build up of skin on his outer
bottom lip/chin. In the past he did ram into the side of his tank while trying
to reach another male dragon. This build up looks a bit bubbly but is hard as
a rock. It looks like it can be picked off but it can't. Is there any disease or
condition that causes this?
Thanks!
Denise
AnswerYour question was sent to the pool, but I will answer it:
Yes, your Beardie has stomatitis, otherwise known as mouth rot. The hardened skin is known as a plaque and part of the abscess. You're Beardie needs to be treated by a vet for this condition with antibiotics or it could spread to his respiratory system. He may get further infection, loss appetite, and many actually die from this when not treated. I recommend Clindamycin oral and have had good success with this.
