Question
QUESTION: Hi my leopard gecko igore (he's a male) has a clouded eye. its closed most of the time but he opens it sometimes. he is eating and is active like he should be. i don't know what to do.

ANSWER: Hello Haley,

What type of substrate is he on currently, sand, tiles, paper towels?
What are the temperatures in the tank & the humidity?
Do you have any pictures of your gecko?
It could be some retained shed possibly.  Are you using a warm moist hide/cave for him on the warm side of his tank?
You could try to get some sterile saline solution to drop into his eye to see if that will help.  Does it look like it is getting infected?

QUESTION: hes using vita-sand and the temp is always 80. the humidity is 20% and its hard to get a pic because hes got his eye closed all the time. no i dont have a moist hide in his tank. we just put some sterile saline in his eye but i dont see any differance. my moms a nurse (noy a reptile nurse) but she thinks it looks like cateracts.

ANSWER: Hello Haley,

It could be a catarac, but it could also be a complication from a retained shed.
He does need to have a moist humid hide/cave on the warm end of his tank, to help with shedding.
Is there any discharge coming from his eye at all?
Do you have a picture of him for me?
Continue using the sterile eye solution.  You could try using some antibiotic eye ointment to help in case it is an eye infection as well.
He does also need a hot spot on the warm end of around 88-90 & the cooler end can be maintained around 78-82.
If he is not being kept warm enough, he could develop fungal issues or other infections caused by immune system depression.

Let me know how he is doing.  Thanks.

QUESTION: he has a warm side and a cool side but he doesn't have a humid hide. theres no discharge. he seems to be getting better but still wont open his eye. im trying to get some pics. we were going to take him to the vet but the closest reptile vet was to far away he would have gotten to cold so we stayed home. what does a cataract mean?

Answer
Hello Haley,

Is his eye not getting any better yet?
Try to get a humid hide/cave set up for him since that does help with the shedding issues that they can have.
A catarac is simply the clouding of the natural lens of the eye.  It affects the ability of light to get through.
I will wait for pictures so I can see his eye.

Is he eating?
