Question
QUESTION: Hello There

I recently came across what i think is a drop tail lizard in our back yard, i have grown fond of it and want to keep it, i was just wondering if you could help with any tips on how to keep it, and what to feed it etc???

Any help would be great, Thanks.

P.s. if it helps im in Australia.

ANSWER: Hello Samantha, I wish there were lizards roaming around where I live. I never agree with keeping wild caught animals as pets but if you must keep it you may as well make sure you keep it as happy and healthy as it can be. I am not sure what a "drop tail lizard" is, is there a more common name for it? Do you have a picture you can send me (email yexalen@gmail.com). I can't find anything about it online either. Well here are some lizard care sheets, if you can find out the more common name for it then take a look at the care sheet. Most lizards eat bugs like crickets. You want to feed him food that is no bigger then the space between his eyes. Is this lizard nocturnal or Diurnal? If the lizard doesn't go after the cricket then try a piece of dandelion flower and see if it goes for that. It might be a herbavore. If you can't find another name for it and you don't have a picture then try and describe him to me and I will see what I can do. Good luck

QUESTION: thanks for replying, as for a more common name its a skink, that when in danger will drop its tail off and it grows back, hope that helps.
Its a very small creature with some lines running down its body.

Thanks for the food ideas, ive got him in a tank with dirt and grass and rocks, just like what he would have in my back yard, he seems to like it, so if you can help any further that would be great.

Thanks

Answer
Thanks for the extra info, I have never heard them called that before but it is a 5 lined skink. Which is a common pet around here. I have never owned one so I don't have any personal advise but I can give you tons of different websites with care sheets.
Here is one from a site that I visit regularly:

Hope that helps. Anything else go right on ahead and ask. Good luck!
