Question
My baby will be 2 yrs old in June; I put him in a 36x18x18 tank-is that a 40 gal. breeder or a 50 gal? It was a used tank. I am using a ZooMed ReptiSun 5.0 18" bulb - should that be a 24" or a  36"? Also using a 100wt ExoTerra SunGlo tight beam basking lamp & a 50wt red night time bulb. Is this correct? Also, he still won't let me hold him-he's so aquirmy I can't even keep a hold of him & he puffs himself out & turns that dark color. One time he even hissed at me. I talk to him all through the day & he has recognized my voice from pretty early on. I give him a balanced diet of escarole, collard greens or curly endive, veggies, fruit 2Xs per week & I dust his salad with his vitamins; he gets crickets every other day. I've noticed lately that he eats his normal amount for the winter months, but he doesn't poop every day. He is very active & alert & his eyes are nice & clear. Does it sound like all is well with him?

Answer
Sounds like a 50 gallon breeder tank which is fine.  I would get a Reptisun 10.0 linear fluorescent tube for that size tank.  You dont need an expensive white light, household incandescents will do as well.  Since beardies see red, nightlights only annoy them, you'd be better off with a ceramic heat emitter on a rheostat for any night warming needed and that would only be if the ambient temperature gets really cold at night.  Even if it was 60 F, it would be alright not to bother with any extra heat at all.
I would look for turnip tops, dandelion greens, mustard greens, arugula, and mache as better greens to go with those collards.  Plus some grated or shredded butternut squash and sweet potato will be appreciated.  All my beardies adore butternut squash.
Sounds like he needs to be out with you more.  Never return him to his tank while he's squirmy, only when he's quiet.  Get a Four Paws harness leash and as soon as it gets warm enough, get him outside, take him on car rides, let him see interesting stuff.  The more he's with you, the more he will get used to you and will enjoy your company.
As far as pooping, I have found that many adults will only poop every few days.  Very few poop daily after the age of two.
