sand substrate

Question
I have a large adult bearded dragon.  I currently use ground walnut shell for a
substrate but want to switch to sand.  I cannot find any playground sand that
does not contain silica.  I live a block from the beach and was wondering if it is
safe to use sand straight from the beach if sifted and washed?

Hello Noel,

Yes, definitely switch from walnut shell.  That is perfectly fine if you want to use beach sand, just wash it, sift it then bake it in the oven to clean it.  
I am glad you are not using the calcium based sand, that is a dangerous type of sand.
